We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization fully staffed by volunteers. We have several areas where we need help. Some are pre-season; some are during the season. Please look through the options and contact us at info@bellevueskischool.com to learn more about helping out.

Bellevue Ski School Volunteer Approval

All volunteers who will be in contact with students must be cleared through the BSS Volunteer process prior to beginning volunteer service. This includes clearance by a Washington State Patrol background check as part of the application process.

Responsibilities:

  • report to respective Division VP
  • Chaperones are responsible for the safety and supervision of students on the bus ride to and from the mountain.
  • Each chaperone helps to load students, skis, and boards onto the bus. All chaperones are responsible for making sure they know how many students are on their bus and ensuring they have the correct number of students for the trip home.
  • MS/HS chaperones: On the mountain we have a “desk” that needs to be staffed during the time we are there. The desk is in the chaperone hut. We answer questions from parents and students, and sign out students who go home early with a parent. The shift is one hour; we ask that you sign up, on average, every other week.
  • Elem chaperones: Accompany students from bus to class and class to bus, and supervise students during lunch and restroom breaks.

Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • Report to Safety VP
  • Drivers and non-drivers work in pairs
  • All day commitment with one 2 hour shift in the Hut
  • When off-shift and out of hut (can be skiing/boarding during this time) must carry radio for backup assistance
  • Hut shift entails admittance and care of students with minor injuries and check-in with Ski Patrol for injured students
  • Work with Ski Patrol regarding students with moderate injuries that require Ski Patrol evaluation
  • Hut: first-shift assists in setting up hut. Last-shift assists in tear down of hut
  • Communicate with student’s parents regarding treatment, and, if necessary, transport of the student to Overlake Hospital to meet with the parents

Safety Drivers:

  • Drivers are required to have a DMV background check, a valid driver’s license, provide proof of automobile insurance & must have a reliable automobile (4-passenger minimum) equipped for severe winter driving conditions
  • Complete the Safety Driver Application and send photos of valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance to info@bellevueskischool.com

Elected by the Ski Council each spring after season ends. Ski Council is composed of Elected Officers, Appointments, Volunteers and parents. Elected office positions generally require at least entry level ski school experience. Elected office positions can be held by couples to share the work load, availability, perks and fun!

The following Ski Council members are annually elected officers (5-year term limit) who serve on the Executive Committee:

President(s), President-Elect (optional)

Responsibilities:

  • Chair Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Participate on the mountain every ski school Saturday
  • Oversee and coordinate entire ski school operation in cooperation with ULLR and the Summit at Snoqualmie
  • Organize and schedule instruction providers (Ullr Snowsports)
  • Oversee budget
  • Make ad-hoc appointments as necessary

Vice-President(s) of Safety

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Participate on the mountain every ski school Saturday
  • Select, train, schedule and manage Safety Volunteers
  • Maintain working relationship with Summit Ski Patrol
  • Communicate and follow-up with families of students injured on the mountain
  • Maintain and transport to hut a suite of radio communication devices
  • Maintain and transport to hut first-aid station supplies

Vice-President(s) of Elementary Division

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Participate on the mountain every ski school Saturday
  • Responsible for grade level programs, from registration and orientation to weekly administration of program
  • Maintain student attendance records
  • Select, train, schedule and manage Chaperones
  • Work with professional ski/snowboard instructors regarding classes and students
  • Communicate with parents before, during and after season

Vice-President(s) of Middle School/High School Divisions

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Participate on the mountain every ski school Saturday
  • Responsible for grade level programs, from registration and orientation to weekly administration of program
  • Maintain student attendance records
  • Select, train, schedule and manage Chaperones
  • Work with professional ski/snowboard instructors regarding classes and students
  • Communicate with parents before, during and after season

Vice-President of Transportation

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Organize and schedule transportation providers and capacity
  • Participate on the mountain every ski school Saturday
  • Manage transportation on ski school days
  • Manage transportation billing and budget in coordination with Treasurer

Secretary

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Take minutes at all Ski School meetings
  • Maintain directory
  • Other duties as assigned

Treasurer

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Maintain accounting system, monitor budget, make deposits, pay bills
  • Prepare financial reports for Council meetings
  • Organize all required tax documentation
  • Organize required audits
  • Other duties as assigned

Director of Marketing

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Advertise and promote the program to the Bellevue School District and its students
  • Actively liaise with district PTA and school PTA officers
  • Actively liaise with Bellevue School District administration

Director of Scheduling

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Manage calendar and ski school management event communications
  • Organize and schedule facilities for meetings and ski school events
  • Organize and schedule facilities for bus loading zones (source and destination)
  • Organize and schedule facilities for chaperone hut
  • Work closely with Division VPs to schedule Chaperones
  • Work closely with Safety VPs to schedule Safety Drivers

Registrar

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Maintain registration database
  • Maintain online registration
  • Monitor and manage registration-related emails
  • Monitor and manage data quality and completeness
  • Generate IDs and Safety Tags

Webmaster

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Maintain/update web site weekly during registration and season
  • Maintain/update online forms and registration documents annually
  • Manage and update social media

Program Assistant

Requirements:

  • Attend Ski School Council meetings year-round
  • Report to respective Division VP
  • Perform a subset of duties as assigned

Elected and Appointed Officer Candidate Requirements:

  • Good organizational skills
  • Willingness to devote many hours year-round to enable a long-standing program to benefit registered students
  • Secretary: Familiarity with basic word processing and email required
  • Treasurer: Previous accounting/treasurer experience required
  • Program Assistant: Previous ski school experience is strongly preferred
  • Registrar: Spreadsheet and database experience
  • Web Master: Previous web site maintenance experience
  • VP: Previous ski school experience is strongly preferred
  • Safety VP: Reliable automobile (4-passenger minimum) equipped for severe winter driving conditions
  • Directors: Previous ski school experience is strongly preferred
  • President: Previous ski school VP experience is required plus one season of training as President-Elect.
